ABOUT OUR CHAPTER

The idea of creating a chapter on the island of Maui, Hawaii, began in earnest around 2013.  At the time, Mary Ellen Smith was the State Regent and was instrumental in the creation of the chapter.  Several of the Maui Organizing Chapter Members were already members of the Aloha Chapter on Oahu, or existing Daughters in other States.  Judy Kinser was approached to serve as Organizing Regent for the Chapter from 2014-2016. The organizing members submitted three proposed Chapter names and “Haleakalā” was chosen. Haleakalā is a dormant volcano on the island of Maui and is significant historically as well as being the most recognized landmark on the island. The translation from Hawaiian to English is “House of the Sun.” The Chapter was officially approved by NSDAR in April of 2014.

Our Chapter now has 24 members, and we continue to grow.  We have a dedicated group of women who wish to fulfill the organization’s goals of promoting Education, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism with our own Maui style of innovation, creativity, and fun!  Join us for a meeting when on Island, we love hearing about other Chapters inspiring projects and receiving new ideas.
